Should I buy a car?
The purchase price is only one part of the decision. Compare the total cost with the convenience and alternatives you would actually use.
Calculate the real cost
Consider depreciation, finance interest, insurance, fuel, servicing, parking and repairs. Compare the monthly total with public transport, taxis, cycling or car sharing.
Ask how often you need it
If the car solves a frequent problem, convenience may be valuable. If it is mainly for occasional use, ownership can be harder to justify.
Compare the opportunity cost
Money committed to a car cannot be used elsewhere. Decide what you would do with the money if you did not buy it.
